Snow Tree: Control the blizzard!

This year's winter lacks the proper winter weather. Instead of frost and snow the temperature is above zero and it rains almost everywhere in Europe and America. While we can't make it snowing outside our windows, we can do it on our computers! The nice relaxing winter game “Snow Tree” provides the snow charge to see, what the real winter should look like.

In this game we control the way the snowflakes are falling. By dragging the mouse on the screen we can create an air flow, which will carry them towards the desired direction. Thus, the real blizzard with various wind patterns: whirlwind, wakes, turbulence, can be started. But, while this process itself provides much fun, it is auxiliary to the main aim of the game.

The point of the game is that: as the snowflakes reach the ground, they stick together and start forming a snow tree. The more snow falls, the higher it grows. And this tree should be used to reach the presents hovering in the air (perhaps, they fell down from Santa's sledge). The more presents you get, the bigger is your score.

Your successes in the game are rewarded with achievements, too. There are achievements for everything: tree height, gifts got, points earned, the number of snowflakes fell, and performing special tasks, for example, reaching 5 metres having used only 5000 snowflakes. The height achievements’ icons depict the real-world objects of thу corresponding height. So, as you reach the level of 20 metres, you will be awarded the “Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree” achievement, and to get the “Pyramids” badge, you have to reach the level of 150 m.

The only factor that prevents the snow tree to grow without limits is the limited amount of snow. As the game starts, 20 000 snowflakes are available in the cloud. But every present opened increases this number by 500 – 2 000. So, after some training it is possible to achieve the badges for 2 km height and 1 000 000 snowflakes fell. By the way, for the last one they may have fallen not in the single game, but in several.

From time to time you’ll encounter another obstacle: wind gusts, which will drift the snowflakes. The best strategy to cope them is to create the counter-wind and wait till the gust calms. Then, you can continue growing the snow tree.

Don’t create too swift air flows, otherwise the tree will become too dense and will grow slowly. It’s better to from the winds a little higher than the grow point to gather more snowflakes in one area, and then let them fall by themselves on the tree. By doing so you’ll get the fast growing beautiful tree.

Music in this game deserves for a special mentioning. While most winter games use “Jingle bells” of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” themes, which are nice by themselves, but become repetitive if heard in several different games, this one features the beautiful melody from Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker”. This melody harmoniously combines with the waltz of the snowflakes you create on the screen.
