I Wanna Win! - be the ultimate winner and collect 25 trophies!

Why do you play computer games? Do you like to win then? I’m sure, you do, as well as I do. That’s why I decided to appeal to the players’ desire to win in my last and the most successful (for now) flash game, I Wanna Win!

The main idea is such: you perform little tasks united by the common aim – to reach the trophy. The way you perform the task affects the number of the stars you receive additionally to the trophy. I tried to make my game as much different from ClickPlay, as it is possible, while keeping it user-friendly and addictive.

The most difficult question which I had to solve is what graphics style to use. I googled the words “victory”, “win”, “winner” and found that most pictures associated with these words, have the combination of golden-yellow and dark-red colours. So, I used this combination as the main theme.

Another colours combination, yellow and blue, was used on the level selection screen. Originally I intended to make this screen like a shelf with cups. But in that case the trophies would be too small, and, besides, having drawn the trophy, I didn’t manage to draw a nice-looking shelf. So, I decided to show only three of the cups at once and rotate them when the mouse is hovering over the arrows.

During the level-design I sometimes implemented the principles of existing gameplays, like Arcanoid or cannon games, sometimes – combined several mechanics or invented own ones . I tried to mix the levels which require quick reaction with those, which need thinking and attention. When the game was ready for the beta testing, there were 15 levels, but many testers’ opinion was that the game was too short, so, I added 10 more. Nevertheless, some reviewers after the game had been released, told, that they wanted to play even longer. I’ll definitely think about a sequel.

One important lesson I got from the post-release discussion is that many people don’t like slider puzzles! I, being the fan of Martin Gardner’s books and Sam Loyds’ puzzles, was astonished to receive comments like “Was going to give 5/5 until I saw slider puzzle. 1/5 then”. Althought, the beta testers warned me that the slider puzzle is quite difficult. That’s why I placed it on the last level. Besides, I included the best 30-turns slider puzzle solution, which gives the player 3 stars, to the video walkthrough.

I didn’t include in it the way to earn 3 stars on the Match 3 level to let the players think by themselves. But, as many ask, here it is on the picture.

As for the soundtrack, I used 4 silent-film slyled tracks by Kevin McLeod. The other sounds were from Freesound.org members. Please, play my game and comment it. It is very important for me, the beginner flash game developer, to know your opinion.
