El Emigrante: the classical avoider game

Seven years is a long term for such a rapidly developing sphere as flash game development. Back in 2004 Flash was not Adobe but Macromedia, the gaming sites were small, some of current market leaders didn’t even exist. There were no convenient ways of flash game monetisation, either.

But this didn’t prevent flash enthusiasts from creating real masterpieces. Let’s take a look at El Emigrante, a classic skill/avoider game released in 2004. This is a game about immigration (as it’s stated in the intro). All you’re required to do is to avoid the police as long as possible.

First we see a simple cartoon revealing how the emigrant managed to get past the boundary wall. And then the actual game begins. You play as an imigrant. Your only vehicle is an old bycicle. Police on the cars are trying to catch you, but if you are skilled enough, it will not be easy for them.

Two factors help you to stay free. Your maneurability is the key for success. You can turn almost immediately, while it takes time for a police car to change the direction. Sometimes their cars can even collide, bringing you extra 50 points. Besides, if you take a closer look, you’ll notice that the prarie is covered wilh different-sized boulders. Riding directly to the boulder makes you jump. In such way you can even jump over your pursuers.

You have the total of 4 lives. When you’ve got caught for the last time, the game is over. The longer you were riding your bycicle, the more points you receive.



Despite the simplicity of the interface, graphics and sounds, El Emigrante reamains a very addictive and funny game. Too bad the developer didn’t include the credits page into it. By the way, just imagine: this game’s size is only 65Kbytes!
